Great time with my brother and Cheryl

So my brother and Cheryl came to visit last wed.night, Aug 27 and they were greeted by cold! 35 in the morning, and it snowed on our jeep ride to Silverton. We warmed up at the Cannibal Grill that night, though.

Thank God it has warmed up since then.

Fall is coming!

It is cold outside and we are spending more time nestling in the camper with a book. We even turned on the heat this am as it was 40degrees outside.

Don gets excited as it gets cooler and as he anticipates autumn photography. So for his birthday I got him a half day of mentoring with a local photographer, Allen Ivy. He loved the experience and somehow ended up buying one of Allen's almost new full frame cameras...which he promises will be his last one! :) but we all shall look forward to seeing some of his framed photos.

On the way to picking the camera up in Gunnison, we went to the Dillon Pinnacles and also saw elk on the way:

Today we are looking around at the aspens between work sessions and can see those signs of fall.

Gearing up for New England, friends!

Various photos from last week..drives and a concert

So we saw lots of wildlife this week...from a buck bedding by our camper to a moose at a remote pond.

Hiked up a hill above our mountain pond which gave us great views of the town:

And yesterday drove down to Creede and enjoyed the peaceful and very remote ponds along the way

Two great days off

On our days off this week, we went to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, had a walk and lunch in Montrose and then hiked the Tumble Creek Trail, south of us . We had to push ourselves to finish the trail as it was 12,120 ft, but we did it and it was so worth it. The views were outstanding.

It was hard to get photos of the Black Canyon as the gorge is 2700 ft. Deep and the sun was facing us much of the time, but these pictures should give a feel of it.

On the way home from Montrose on a little dirt road:

On the final mile of our Tumble Creek climb. And my camera battery went dead:

Our routine week

Just realized I have not done my journal or blog for quite a while now...guess it means we are settled in. So what have we done? Went to 2 movies at our so cute theater: Blazing Saddles and How to Train Your Dragon2. We had to go to Gunnison twice for grooming and a vet appt. Nothing major wrong with Sophie but she does have a 2 inch patch of skin without hair on her back...

In between work we have taken a few drives to see a waterfall, and interesting rock formations and gee we got to see the local stick horse races. Yesterday I went down to the lake just to meditate and relax by the waves at dusk.

Creede fire was last year...you can see the results:
