Almost there

We made it to Gunnison by going the southern route...only one10,000+ pass. Gorgeous scenery on the road through Alamosa.

We settled into the Tall Texan campground which was one of the ones we considered workcamping at (never heard from them after we applied, but the owners and current work campers are very nice). It is a very big shady campground right out of town.

We wandered around town and had burgers but I am wiped. I can really feel the altitude of 7800 ft., so I am glad we have 2 days to adjust here before meeting our new bosses, who by the way have dinner planned for us and the whole crew Monday night. Yippee!

Wonderful Day at the Garden of the Gods and the Broadmoor

We had a perfect day at the Garden of the Gods..70 degree weather and breezy. Wandered on lots of trails and saw lots of magpie and deer.

Afterwards we visited a glamorous old hotel called the Broadmoor, which was high in the mts of Colorado Springs. Every wall had beautiful art and we felt like we were in a museum...lovely ponds and outdoor spaces. By the clientele we saw, we knew there are many, many who live the good life!

We came home to Sophie just in time for a super hail storm..hail the size of nickels..this is our second hail storm. The previous one was at night and Sophie was terrified ..didn't get much sleep at all. Tomorrow we are headed for Gunnison, almost to our new home.

We do love Colorado!

Animals

By the way, we are at Falcon Meadows Campground at 6800 elevation looking at the14,110 Pikes Peak. In the few hours we have been here we have seen falcons, gophers, rabbits, pronghorn deer, and meadow larks! It is about 70 plus degrees here with lovely winds. Ahh, Colorado!

Change of plans

So since we were a day earlier than scheduled we decided to go towards Colorado Springs. We found a great campsite 15 minutes out of town in a rural area with great views...so here we are for 2 days. Then we will skip Denver as our dear Chalet doesn't enjoy traffic when towing. We will go straight to Gunnison which is about an hour from Lake City and stay there 2 or 3 days before heading down. May even do a day trip with just the car to Crested Butte which is gorgeous.

We celebrated our decision with pulled pork sandwiches from an outside BBQ truck and then took naps. ( our excuse is that we are now at 6800 ft and we are in slo mo...adjusting to the altitude)

Pictures from our site: perfect view of Pikes Peak...yes with Don napping, and several pronghorn deer that hopefully you can see

We made it to Colorado!

We had a really nice 2 day visit with Don's family and stayed at a lovely campground right outside of Terre Haute . The next day we made it to Kansas and Sophie found a new way to see the road by being in the chair behind me, as you can see in my selfie.

Found a beautiful state park in the middle of Kansas

And then made it all the way to Colorado, using a few back roads. We are staying at a place right off the highway tonight , but now we have an extra day to explore before going to the Denver area.

It has been a long ride through the plains but it will be worth it!

Adventure has begun!

I am so pleased that everything went off with no problems:

The afternoon before we left Eaton, friends told me of 2 super reliable people who were looking to rent for much of this summer. Since we had just finished cleaning and since everyone we knew it seemed, knew and trusted them, we agreed!! We had one phone conversation with them and had our friends go through our procedures and now it is a done deal...and the house will be taken care of!

Then there was the wonderful Eaton Tapas event that felt like a proper send off ..

In the morning we drove the RV and car to the Ossipee mall area and Don hitched it up without any problems the first time! We drove 8 hours and the one place we could find to park overnight was at a Camping World..of course Don drooled over bigger and better campers..

Today we started at 7am as we were awaken by trucks and finally ended up in Ohio in a little farm town past Columbus. We tried 2 campgrounds which were full but found this one which is basically a field with a few trees and electrical connections. Since there were no Hilton's near by we found a shady spot here with a nice breeze, needed as it is 85 degrees.

When we first got here we were very skeptical. As you can see from the picture it was run down and we were greeted with an old car that looked like it was wrapped in Saran Wrap.

A guy did come by who was temporarily managing it and said the owner was 103 and doesn't see the point of putting $ into it..."besides there is a golf course next door and they might buy the land." Let's hope they do so soon. :).

Tomorrow we are off to Indiana and will have dinner with Don's brother and sister and hopefully other family members will show up too.

Colorado here we come!

I can't believe we are soon off to our next adventure. I have been trying to get in shape as my lungs certainly will need help at 9000 feet! Our new home will be at the Pleasant View Resort, Lake City, CO

Soon we will be near Lake Cristobal where they have 9 cabins, 2 houses and jeeps to rent (We will be part of the cleaning crew)

Can't wait to explore those trails

And get to know our little downtown:

We do hope to have visitors too!
